Our Georgia Exploration Trip was such a success last winter that we’re coming back for two weeks in Winter 2027. This is Ski & Wine with a healthy serving of culture, adventure, cuisine and Chacha – a potent Georgian brandy that finds its way into every meal, including breakfast.

We’ll meet in Tbilisi, explore that amazing city, discover Georgian food, see how the locals make wine, discover even more Georgian food, and then spend five nights and four days skiing the Caucus Mountains, where we’ll find terrain for all levels of skiers and boarders, plenty of snow, wicked apres parties, and backcountry/freeride experiences for the more advanced. Then we head back to Tbilisi via Georgia’s premier winemaking region, a visit to another winery, another feast, and a final night out in Tbilisi city (if we’re still standing).

This trip is for people who want a little more adventure and culture out of their ski trip, who want to travel more than vacation, and who aren’t afraid of stepping just a little outside their comfort zone.

Description

What does the Ski & Wine Week in Georgia look like?

Georgia is literally on the edge of Europe, nestled below Russia and above Turkey, hemmed in between the Black and Caspian Seas, bordered by Azerbaijan, Armenia, Dagestan and Chechnya. The country has a rich and proud history of being invaded and repelling invaders and this has made their Christian nation and traditions of celebration, toasting, singing and dancing, and eating and drinking and hospitality to outsiders especially strong. The Georgians have a unique cuisine that draws on their geographic and historical position, the world’s oldest wine making traditions, dating back 8000 years, and the tamada tradition, which is an epic feast that is punctuated by heartfelt speeches and relentless toasts, leaving both the toastmaster and their guests staggering drunk. We explore and discover this culture, cuisine and wine as well as ski Georgia’s very impressive slopes.

Skiing in Georgia

High in the Caucasus mountains, Gudauri is Georgia’s premier ski resort situated on the only road that connects the country to Russia. Expect wide-open pistes, deep powder stashes, and panoramic views that make the Alps look almost tame. With a modern lift system, and a more relaxed vibe than Europe’s crowded mega-resorts, Gudauri is the perfect base for our exploration. Four days of skiing are included, with the option to tack on backcountry or heli-skiing if you’re keen to push into the wild.

Wine the Georgian Way

Georgia is the cradle of wine, with over 8,000 years of winemaking history. We’ll taste traditional qvevri wines made in clay amphorae, and compare them with bold modern reds that stand up to any cellar in the world. The highlight is a winery visit with a full tasting and traditional lunch on our way to the mountains, but every dinner in the chalet comes with local bottles hand-picked by the Swallow Don’t Spit crew.

Georgian Food & Feasting

Georgian cuisine is rich, hearty, and designed for sharing. Think cheese-stuffed khachapuri breads, juicy khinkali dumplings, and slow-cooked meats with spice-packed sauces. Meals are a big part of the trip: daily breakfasts to fuel the slopes, hearty dinners in the chalet or local restaurants, and a farewell feast in Tbilisi to send us home full and happy.

Georgian Culture & Chaos

This is more than a ski trip — it’s a cultural adventure. From wandering Tbilisi’s winding Old Town streets, to toasting with locals over fiery chacha, to hearing the legends of the Caucasus mountains, Georgia delivers raw, unpolished charm. Expect big hospitality, spontaneous detours, and stories that will stick longer than the hangovers.

Getting to Georgia

There are direct flights to Tbilisi from London and across Europe, or transfer through Istanbul or any of the Gulf airports. Flights from the UK and Europe are around €300 return, with better deals available. Georgia has one of the world’s most generous visa-free policies, with most countries allowed between 90 to 365 days of travel in the country visa free.
